If you’re a member of a Conventions & Visitors Bureau or Chamber Of Commerce, a staff member, a board of directors member or someone just plain old interested in getting tourists to come to your area, you’ve found the right place!

CVBs and chambers around the country are increasingly being expected to provide MORE to their communities. Namely, MORE visitors spending MORE money. That only makes sense! With the way the economy is rapidly shifting right now, more and more local economies are looking to tourism as a replacement for lost revenues. AND…chambers and CVBs are being encouraged…no, expected to help make up some of the lost revenue. That makes for a LOT of pressure to learn a LOT of techniques rapidly WITHOUT spending a LOT of money!

Does that sound and feel familiar to you? If you’re not feeling that pressure yet…HANG ON, it’s coming your way soon!

That pressure to get more visitors to your area but spend less money doing it is becoming all too common for tourism related organizations.

That pressure has, correctly, forced tourism personnel to learn a LOT about the Internet since it’s one of the only cost efficient ways to reach a HUGE amount of people.

Unfortunately, being able to get on the Internet, send emails, and…maybe…help design a website just BARELY cuts it anymore. Tourism personnel need to have skills that will allow them to plan and implement multiple website strategies, mobile site strategies, couponing and contest strategies, video strategies, effective welcome center strategies, paperless (and postage-less) brochure strategies and much more.

All of that is what made me create Tourism Learning Center.

Hello, my name is Dennis Lively…that’s me with my first and only grandchild, Daniel Zane. (Can you tell I’m a proud grandpa?)

I’ve been active…and I mean active…with chambers and CVBs since 1975. That’s 35 years! I’ve also made my living entirely from the Internet for the last 15 years. That means, in order to pay the bills, I HAD to learn how to talk to people through the Internet, how to get them to do what I wanted them to in a way that they thanked me for, how to make them my long term customers and most importantly, my long term friends.

THAT’S the kind of experience and tips and techniques you’re going to be learning from when you become a student at the Tourism Learning Center!

Not only MY experience, but the experiences of guest speakers and teachers. If we need to learn about a certain technique that I’m not thoroughly experienced in, I’ll have a certified expert come teach us about it! If YOU have a question I can’t answer, we’ll find someone who can!

Through weekly online meetings…in a VERY COOL new technology…we’ll get together LIVE so we can talk and learn from each other together. YOU get to call the shots…announce what we’re going to talk about that week, ask questions about problems YOU’VE run into, whatever, it’s YOUR class time!

You’ll also have access to an huge array of articles and videos each month. These will be updated monthly.

You learn at your own pace and learn what YOU need to learn to be able to do the best job possible for your chamber or CVB. That’s the whole idea, isn’t it?

Thanks for your time spent reading this. I hope to get to know you as a student. If you like what you’ve read here, please tell your friends in the field about it.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

  9. For those looking to have attractive, online, interactive travel guides…

My company, Dirxion (www.dirxion.com) can build you a digital travel guide that is iPad, iPhone and Android/Smartphone optimized……PLUS we are the only company to be able to make you a FACEBOOK APP! That means you can have your travel guide, fully functioning just like the page-flip version on your CVB’s website, where the facebook user can use the guide directly on that page without having to be redirected to a different site. Check out the state of Virginia’s Digital Guide at http://virginia.dirxion.com. 12. Your blog is pretty interesting to me and your topics are very relevant. I was browsing around and came across something you might find interesting. I was guilty of 3 of them with my sites. “99% of website owners are committing these five mistakes”. http://tinyurl.com/cvartfk You will be suprised how simple they are to fix.
